Homewood at Martinsburg

Elaine Joy Williams, 93, a resident of Homewood at Martinsburg, passed away Monday morning, Oct. 30, 2023, at the home.

She was born Feb. 17, 1930, in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late John and Anna (Stranatka) Kucharek. On Dec. 1, 1956, she married George E. Williams at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Altoona. He preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 2013, following 57 years of marriage.

She is survived by a son, Mark A. Williams (Diane), of Hilton Head, SC; a daughter, Wendy A. McCauley (Shawn), of rural Williamsburg; two grandchildren: Myles McCauley (Carissa) and Hannah Cottingham (Alex); and four great-grandchildren: Andi June, Crew James, and Emma Joy Cottingham and Ash Finnigan McCauley.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Ruth K. “Ruthie” Burks and Dorothy “Dottie” Brown.

Joy was a 1949 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and went on to study at Youngstown Business School in Ohio. She was employed as a draftsman in the engineering department at Bell Telephone Company.

Joy was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg. She loved spending time with her family. Joy enjoyed gardening, arranging flowers, watching old movies, playing pinochle and bridge, and using her iPad.

A funeral was held Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023, at the Bice Memorial Chapel at Homewood at Martinsburg, Pastor James Neatrour officiated. A private interment was held at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
