No Outdoor Lights this Year

Herald of Dec. 6, 1973

Because of the energy shortage and President Nixon’s request that outdoor Christmas lights not be used this year, residents of Blair Street in Martinsburg decided not to set up their annual display of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”. The display, which began in 1969, uses spotlights for illumination.

The Blair County Court has ordered a psychiatric examination for a 21-year-old Roaring Spring man charged with making 35 obscene telephone calls to operators. Judge Robert C. Haberstroh ordered the man to submit himself to the Hollidaysburg State Hospital for examination before his case goes to trial.

Roaring Spring Borough Council tentatively agreed to proceed with plans to construct a new water tank and pumping station behind the Spring Cove Junior High School. Funding was not included in the borough’s proposed budget, but help is expected to come from the school district and the state’s Department of Community Affairs.
