Toll Gate Worker Wanted

Herald of Dec. 8, 1898

Wanted–immediately a reliable person to keep toll gate at Martinsburg on the Morrison Cove Turnpike. Terms reasonable. Inquire of Mrs Maggie Conrad, Roaring Spring.

The apron bazaar, for the benefit of the Lutheran church, is now in progress in the Burket building, in the room under the Herald office. This bazaar will continue for three days. A choice lot of aprons will be offered for sale. Supper will be served each evening for 15 cents per meal. Ice cream, cake, sandwiches, coffee and other good things to eat will be served. The public is cordially invited.

Miss Orie Burket, daughter of Nathaniel Burket of this place, met with a very serious accident on Friday of last week. The young lady was engaged on an index cutting machine at the book bindery in Roaring Spring when the knife caught and cut off three fingers at the first joints of the right hand. Dr. Eldon dressed the wounded fingers.
