Blair Concert Chorale to Perform For the Holiday

The Blair Concert Chorale is excited to celebrate the holiday season in song south of the border. La Fiesta de la Posada, the Christmas story in song is by famed musician Dave Brubeck. La Fiesta de la Posada combines elements of jazz a la Brubeck with the traditional telling of the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. The Blair Concert Chorale will present this unique work on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 7:30 p.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 14th Street and 12th Avenue, Altoona.

Accompanying the BCC on the jazzy journey to Bethlehem will be Trumpets, Josh Hillard and Kenneth Young; Guitar, Tom Maroon, from Greensburg; Keys, Sue Cossitor; Bass, Kelly Detwiler; and Percussion, Ethan Cutshall. Chorale members, soprano soloists, Paige Matteson and Patti Fabinyi will complete the journey.

The Blair Concert Chorale, numbering over 30 singers, will perform traditional holiday favorites for an old-fashioned sing along and carols of an international flair from France and Spain — Bring a Torch, Jeannette Isabella and three Spanish carols.

The Blair Concert Chorale is under the direction of Christopher Bartley. He is Music Director and instructor of music at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg where he conducts the Pitt-Greensburg Chorale and Chamber Singers.
