Truckers Strike Ending

Food Supplies in the Cove area were gradually returning to normal as the national truckers’ strike fizzled out. During the brief strike, however, several incidents erupted. Shots were fired at trucks owned by E.F. Smith Inc. while they passed through Loysburg Gap. The trucks were then stopped at a nearby roadblock, where tires were gouged with an ice pick and a rock was thrown through a truck window.

While the supply of food was improving, shortage of gasoline continued to be a problem in the area. In order to make the most of fuel supplies, many local filling stations...
