Girl Collects 1,000

Herald of Feb. 27, 2014

Ava Whisker, 7, of Everett filled bag with 1,000 pairs of shoes she collected for the charity Soles 4 Souls. Ava was a student at Northern Bedford Elementary School.

An exciting weekend awaited Central High School swimmer Taylor Flaugh. She was a sophomore and among the best swimmers throughout the District 6, and she would compete in two events at the Class AA Swimming and Diving Championships Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28-March 1, at Penn State University. Despite the absence of boys’ and girls’ swimming at Central that winter season, Flaugh entered the district championships with the competition looking up at her. Flaugh earned the top seed in both the girls’ 200- and 500-yard freestyle events by swimming in exhibition meets throughout the season. Her seed time in the 200 was 2:05.06, and she entered the 500 with a top mark of 5:29.25. The 200 and 500 were scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
