Home Show Showcases Current Trends for Homeowners

Many local companies that specialize in windows, doors and siding, were talking about what was trending lately for homeowners at the Blair Home, Garden and Healthy Living Showcase at the Blair County Convention Center earlier this month.

Shawnee Vinyl

Shawnee Vinyl owner Jim Barnes said that a lot of people were looking for windows that are easy to clean and energy efficient.

He said some other qualities that homeowners look at when buying windows is if the glass is able to reflect UV rays, is energy smart, and keeps a house cool or warm depending on the season.

"Black veneer is also a very popular style among homeowners today," Barnes said.

He said for siding there are more colors available than ever before, and the fade resistant warranties are allowing for darker shades.

"Darker colors for siding are very popular right now,

Barnes said.

Window World

Jon Clark, sales and design consultant for Window World said a lot of people visiting their booth were very interested in seeing the different types of windows they had on display.

"The double hung windows are the most common that people buy," he said.

Casement windows are also very common, Clark said.

He also said that black is a very big color right now for windows.

There was also an interest in doors, especially the full light doors.

"I think people like the look of the glass in the center," Clark said.
