The high cost of building materials and high mortgage rates were believed to have led to the drop in new construction in the area. However, area builders and bankers agreed that the decline being seen locally was not as drastic as that in other areas.

The Central High School FFA group won first place in the Blair County Parliamentary Procedure Contest. Central’s Gerald Smith took first place and Kenneth Cherry took third place in the FFA’s public speaking contest.
