Alma J. Eastep

Alma Jane Eastep, 82, of Williamsburg, passed away Thursday morning, May 2, 2024, at The Village of Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg.

She was born Nov. 7, 1941, in Clappertown, daughter of the late Wilson M. and Alice M. (Yingling) Bookhammer. On June 4, 1960, she married Richard “Dick” E. Eastep at Eight Square Chapel, rural Williamsburg.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Richard, of 63 years; a daughter, Dena L. Kennedy (Dave) of rural Williamsburg; a son, Rich Eastep (Nichole) of rural Williamsburg; five grandchildren: Carrie Loose (Joel), Kazia Knepp (Jon), Kellie Schwake (Greg), Evalyn Snively (Brock), and Katie Powell (Will); nine great-grandchildren: Cooper, Andy, Colbie, Eleanor, Ethan, Gemma, Laney, Mackenzie, and Auri; four brothers: George R. Bookhammer, Ronald R. Bookhammer, David B. Bookhammer, and Donald R. Bookhammer; four sisters: Marjorie J. Novander, Darlene J. Simmons, Eileen E. Nichols, and Dorothy J. DuBois; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Thomas L. Bookhammer, Rev. Bernard J. Bookhammer, and Walter R. Aurandt.

Alma was a 1960 graduate of Williamsburg High School. She was employed as a CNA at Homewood at Martinsburg, with close to 30 years of service. After retiring, she did private duty care for many families in the Cove.

She was a longtime active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Alma was also a member of Williamsburg Women’s Civic Club, Hollidaysburg Chapter #471 Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as past worthy matron and Dorcas Temple #129 Daughters of the Nile, Altoona.

Alma loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, square dancing, traveling, camping and working in her flower gardens.

A funeral was held Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Pastor Tiffany E. Marvich officiated. Private interment was held at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.
