The Evening Hatch

When Donna and I moved into our home many years ago, Charles Hauser, our next-door-neighbor, wondered why I left my lovely wife at home for a couple hours nearly every evening from early May until early June. “She’s alone at that house,” he scolded. “You need to be more attentive.”

I tried to explain to Charles that I was traveling to one of the local creeks to fly-fish for trout during what fly-fishermen call the evening hatch. “That’s the best time for dry-fly fishing to rising trout,” I said.
