Prohibition of Child Labor

Ratification by 35 states was necessary for the adoption of the proposed amendment to the Constitution to prohibit child labor. It was calculated in the 1920 census that a total of one million children between the ages of 10 and 15 were being employed in work ranging from agriculture and mining to clerks and newsboys.
