The Greenfield Township Board of Supervisors approved the purchase of a license plate reader for one of the township’s police vehicles at its Oct. 1 meeting. The unit will feature forward and rear-facing cameras that can help identify when a nearby vehicle has an expired registration, is stolen, is suspended, may have a driver who is wanted, or could contain a missing person. The device will be “a nice tool,” Ronald Sharkey, police chief, said. The cost is not to exceed $13,000.
The license plate monitoring will be integrated with data from other users in the state.
