Martinsburg Residents Asked to 'Mask Up'

Series: Coronavirus | Story 212

Officials of the Borough of Martinsburg are asking residents to “Mask Up” to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Residents will receive a newsletter in the mail where officials are asking the community to work together to stop the spread.

“We are going through some challenging times that are changing our way of living,” says the newsletter, which is signed by Richard A. Brantner Jr., borough manager and local emergency coordinator; P. Robert Dickson, council president; and Richard A. Brantner Sr., borough mayor.

“COVID-19 is a tough virus BUT together we can defeat it,” the officials said. “You matter and so do our actions to one another. We have the power to protect each other, our economy and our community through our coming together and making a choice that can help stop the spread of this virus.

With area hospitals being busier than ever with COVID patients and our first responders being exhausted, we as a community need to step up and step in to do our part in fighting this virus.”

Some of the ways officials are asking the borough residents to help in this area is to:

• Wear a mask when going out into public places

• Social distance from others as much as possible when in public places

• Wash your hands frequently.

“So, let us work together to stop the spread,” officials say in the newsletter. “Thank you for doing your part!”

The Pennsylvania Department of Health has confirmed as of 12 a.m. Nov. 23, that there were 4,762 new cases, in addition to 7,075 new cases reported Sunday, Nov. 22, for a two-day total of 11,837 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 314,401.
