Lions Club Looks to Aid in Community Events

The Williamsburg Lions Club met on Monday, March 13, at the United Methodist Church, Williamsburg.

The group discussed working in the community of Williamsburg and surrounding areas to better the communities involved.

The Huntingdon PRIDE telethon will be this weekend, March 15 to 18.

According to its website, "PRIDE is an all inclusive, nondiscriminatory organization for persons with disabilities caused by birth defects, injury, disease, learning and developmental disorders, again and other disabling conditions.

PRIDE reflects our commitment to: Promoting, Rehabilitation, Independence, Dignity and Education for people with special needs in Huntingdon County."

On March 17, the Lions Club leader dog, Millie, will be put in "jail" in Huntingdon County. Funds will be requested to release her. All proceeds benefit the PRIDE of Huntingdon County, which helps people with disabilities in the surrounding areas.

The Lions Club also voted to help co-sponsor the Women's Civic Club's annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 8.

The Lions Club was presented a branch pin and applique to sew on their banners for sponsoring a branch membership. In the last few years, the Williamsburg Club has sponsored the Beacon Lodge Camp for the Blind and Disabled as a branch, which according to the Lions Club rules, only needs five members. The Beacon Lodge Branch now has between 12-17 members. Jason Radmann, the liaison for the club and Beacon Lodge Branch, accepted the pin on behalf of the club. On May 8, the club and the branch will have their Charter Branch Dinner at the United Methodist aChurch.
