Betty Lou (Grove) McCready

Martinsburg

Betty Lou (Grove) McCready, 91, of Martinsburg, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, Nov. 7, 2023, at The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg.

She was born Oct 6, 1932, in Altoona, daughter of the late William R. and Martha (Heffner) Grove. She married Dennis Eugene McCready on July 2, 1955. He preceded her in death in 2009, after sharing 54 years of marriage.

She is survived by a daughter, Debra Straesser and husband, Dwight; three sons: David and wife, Janet, Randall and wife, Kathy, and Daniel; eight grandchildren: Sara, Matthew, Michael, Matthew, Molly, Daniel, David, and Caitlyn; ten great grandchildren: Hudson, Miles, Elizabeth, Anna, Shelby, Luke, Daniel, Hunter, Eleana, and Savannah; two sisters: Joann Burgoon and Sharon Guyer; and a brother, Benjamin Grove.

She was preceded in death by a great grandson, Jackson McCready and a brother, William Grove.

Betty loved Jesus and grew up attending the Altoona Christian and Missionary Alliance Church as well as Mahaffey Church Camp. She was a member of the Clappertown Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.

Betty worked as an aid at the Village at Morrisons Cove Home for close to 30 years. In her retirement, she enjoyed helping demo Ritchey’s Dairy milk and ice cream at area grocery stores, being part of the Martinsburg Boosters and Red Hats.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, traveling, and talking with people.

Friends will be received from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, (sorgefuneralhome.com), where a Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 2 p.m., with Pastor Paul Campbell officiating.
