The Herald will provide updates regarding the uncertainty of the scholastic spring sports season....

  • Old Order Mennonite Memoirs

    Roseann Zimmerman, Correspondent|Mar 19, 2020

With heavy eyelids and burning eyes brought on by daylight saving time, we also bounced back and forth like a ball. March, with unpredictable moods, bounced us between winter and summer. But we're adapting. I'm always amazed at the resiliency of the human body and how it recovers and adjusts to changes. Sunshine, with powerful heat, beamed on our Monday, March 9. The garden soil begged for seeds so I obliged. I dropped the little, shriveled bits into my scratched rows where they wait for a...

  • Not Your Typical Church Lady

    Kelly Baker, Correspondent|Mar 19, 2020

One thing I find difficult every other week is nailing down a specific topic to write about. It's not because there is a shortage of things to discuss, its because there are so many! The Bible is full of great things and its difficult to decide. I'm a Bible nerd and I don't care who knows it. There's always something new to learn, or a tidbit that hadn't popped out before. Then there's God himself and the different ways he's moved and worked in my life. He's done so many things, big and small,...

  • Thought for the Week

    Pastor Earl Herr, Correspondent|Mar 19, 2020

Scriptures to Read: Acts 9:1-9 Acts 9:10-19 Acts 9:20-30 Acts 22:1-11 Acts 22:12-21 Acts 23:6-11 St. Matthew 9:35-38 & St. John 4:32-38 We closed last week thinking about Paul's hearing the voice of authority. He says he was not disobedient to that voice. Much of Paul's Damascus Road experience is skipped here. We can check it out on our own. It could well be that Paul told more things to Herod and Festus but they are not recorded here. What Paul does emphasize is that he heard the voice of the...

  • A Lenten Tradition Takes Flight

    Mar 19, 2020

The Christian season of Lent and the Easter holiday are laden with time-honored traditions that are both secular and religious. Many such traditions are universal, but people still find ways to celebrate their Christian faith in their own unique ways. Each Good Friday, residents of Bermuda take to the beach to fly kites. The tradition began from a legend that says a local teacher was attempting to explain to Sunday school students about Jesus' ascension to heaven. The students were not grasping...

    Mar 19, 2020

Easter is the most important day of the year on the Christian calendar. A celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, Easter commemorates the very core of the Christian faith. So it comes as no surprise that such an important day is steeped in tradition. Easter traditions such as Easter Sunday Mass are widely known. But there are many unique Easter traditions across the globe that, while they may not be as widely known, illustrate the power of this very special day in the Christian community. • India: India may not be the first nation to...

  • Tips to Protect Your Winter Wardrobe

    Mar 19, 2020

If you are like many people, your winter wardrobe requires a bit of extra care. Between fine cashmere sweaters, favorite woolen outerwear and your snazziest cocktail attire, your special care garments should look as crisp at the end of the season as they do today. Unfortunately, winter often brings with it slush, mud, salt and other threats to fabrics. To protect your winter wear affordably, consider the following tips: • Be smart about footwear: On wet or slushy days, tuck pants into dur...

  • Sources of Reliable Information about the Novel Coronavirus and COVID-19

    Allan J. Bassler, Publisher|Mar 19, 2020

The Herald is publishing as much local information as it can about the reaction to the coronavirus and COVID-19. The Herald’s niche is providing news about Morrisons Cove, so that’s what we are doing. However, we cannot squeeze everything into these pages, nor can we capture all the news about this event on our website. And, of course, none of us are experts on public health or diseases. So in the interest of providing as much information as we can, the Herald has gathered several resources which are presenting reliable, responsible inf... Full story

The Northern Bedford County School Board met Tuesday, March 10, to discuss and decide several agenda items. As part of the meeting, the board presented a plaque of recognition to Starla Snyder, the school nurse. Snyder is to receive the South-Central School Nurse Excellence Award March 28 in State College. Nominees for this award were acknowledged by their peers and one apparent reason for Snyder’s receiving this award is due to her ability to remain calm under stressful situations. During the March 3 meeting of the Williamsburg Municipal Authority, discussions about Cove Forge property dominated the conversation. Cove Forge Behavioral Health had made it known that there would be a 19-bed addition to its Williamsburg facility and that the facility was planning to submit a waterline tap request to the authority. • From the 'Burg to Your Kitchen: The 'Stuck at Home' Edition

    Natalie Gorsuch, Williamsburg Correspondent|Mar 19, 2020

Fourteen days! Can you believe it? If you’re like me, you are thinking, “Great. Fourteen days off of work! This is like a mini-vacation!” But for readers with children, it’s often frantic and crazy trying to find a babysitter on such short notice, or finding the time to entertain the kids. I had the pleasure of watching one of my “children” (one of my preschoolers) while our daycare had shut down due to regulations. What better way to spend time with kids than making lunch in the kitchen? It has the added advantage of taking their eyes off th...

  • Blair County Chamber of Commerce Comment on Coronavirus Pandemic

    Mar 19, 2020

As an organization in which 85 percent of its more than 1,000 members fall into the category of small business, the Blair County Chamber of Commerce is extremely aware of the gravity of the situation in which our businesses currently find themselves. I would encourage Governor Wolf to perhaps choose a different term in describing a certain segment of the business community. There truly are no “non-essential” businesses. While the health of our people is paramount, the health of our community and its economy ranks a very close second. The cha... Full story

    Mar 19, 2020

Blair County Emergency Management is urging individuals not to call 911 to report businesses not complying with Gov. Tom Wolf’s order. The closure of non-life sustaining businesses is a measure that has been taken to control the spread of a communicable disease, COVID-1, and has been ordered by the Governor and the Secretary of Health. The closures are enforceable through criminal penalties, under the Disease Control and Prevention Law of 1955 and the Administrative Code of 1929. Concerned citizens, wishing to report non-compliant b... Full story
