A strike by the employees of the Combined Paper Mill at Roaring Spring closed the mill at midnight Monday because the company and Local 422 of the United Papermakers and Paper workers union were unable to agree on an extension of the existing contract.
The Spring Cove School Board agreed to lease the former junior high school building at “Bean Hill” to the Altoona School of Commerce on a temporary basis.
Officials of the Southern Cove Volunteer Fire Company report that they have been receiving a number of mysterious phone calls, many during the night hours. The caller does not answer when the fireman picks up the phone.
The Henrietta School House brought $3,700 when it went on the auction block last Saturday.
Wendy Albright, 6, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Albright of New Enterprise, was injured Monday when her foot became caught in a power lawn mower.
H. Scott Marriner has been hired as the new band director at CKHS.
