Store Training Manager Rebecca Detwiler stands outside the Dollar General, Williamsburg. Detwiler, along with co-worker Emily Detwiler were recently honored by the Dollar General for "DG Kindness" for their collection of school supplies for the school district.
"We just love our community," Williamsburg Dollar General Store Training Manager Rebecca Detwiler said after being recognized alongside Lead Sales Associate Emily Detwiler for "DG Kindness."
DG Kindness is a campaign from Dollar General that highlights employees who lead with compassion and kindness.
With a combined 28 years at the Dollar General, the duo decided to help out their community by collecting school supplies for the Williamsburg Community School District to ensure that all students had the supplies they needed.
"The idea came to us when helping a teacher shop for school supplies for her class," said Emily. "Buying school supplies can be a big expense for our customers. We were hoping to help lighten the load for parents, students and teachers."
The collection paid off; the team collected over eight boxes of school supplies for the school district.
"We are so grateful for our neighbors joining us and helping our local kids as they return back to school," said Rebecca.
Because of their kindness, Dollar General is making a $1,000 donation to the Williamsburg Community School District to help students achieve a brighter future.
